Happy Halloween!

As usual, the day before Halloween is always an exciting one. Many can't concentrate at school or work and look forward to the festivities that will be happening the next day. One way you can celebrate Halloween is by visiting your local comic book shop and get free comics Halloween themed comics. Every October 31st, comic book shop that participates in Halloween ComicFest offers many cool comics from different publishers. Some stores even have signings or artist to come do commissions along with people dressed up as superheroes, Star Wars characters, etc. It's a very fun day for family and friends to enjoy and to support your local comic store.
Some of the comic that were given away included:
STK682005 Image
Fragments of Horror by Junji Ito from publisher, Viz Media

STK683500 Image
Donald Duck's Haloween Scream! by William Van Horn and Dan Noonan from IDW Publishing. This would be a great book for kids to get.

STK683679 Image
Grimm Tales of Terror from Zenescope Entertainment INC

STK682503 Image
Vampblade featuring Zombie Tramp written by Jason Martin and Dan Mendoza and art by Winston Young published by Action Lab- Danger Zone. This is probably one that I wouldn't recommend for kids to get but there are definitely a lot of comics for people to choose from for all ages.

Also happening this weekend is Stan Lee's Comikaze in Los Angeles. It's another con that happens every year and is hosted by the one and only Stan "the Man" Lee. If you ever want to meet Mr. Stan Lee, you have a great chance at doing that by going to his con. A lot of cool guests will be there including Grant Morrison and Carrie Fisher. The expo started today and will end on Sunday. We might get so cool news from the expo but not really likely since it's not on the same level as San Diego comic con or New York comic con but still a great weekend for those attending.

New Comic Book Day

It is Wednesday which means Happy New Comic Book Day! New comic book day is every Wednesday and every Wednesday, new comic book issues are released. You can find new comics in almost every comic book store you go to. I, sadly, have to wait until Thursdays or even until Fridays to get new comic books that were released on Wednesdays because I stay on my campus almost the entire day and once I go home, the comic book store is already closed.
It's always a good idea to buy new comics that are just getting released as soon as possible because there is a chance that they can sell out and you'll have to wait up to two weeks just to get it.
Some new #1 comic book issues that went on sale today were:
From DC Comics
Justice League: Darkseid War: Batman #1
Justice League Gods And Men Batman #1 #1 Cover

From Scout Comics:
Henchgirl #1
Henchgirl #1 Cover

From Image Comics:
Black Magick #1
Black Magick #1 Cover

These are just a few that were released today but definitely check out the other great issues released from other amazing publishers.

Also released today were more Empire Suicide Squad covers but this time with Deadshot who will be played by Will Smith and Harley Quinn played by Margot Robbie.

These covers have been amazing so far and I hope they release more of the rest of the Squad.

Fans of Civil War are finally getting making noise after a photo of some new merch from the Civil War movie shows that Captain America will have scales on his new suit which sticks to the comic book version of Captain America. It is nice seeing how these films are becoming more comic book accurate with the superhero suits.

Other movie news that was exciting was that Chris Pine confirmed that he will be in the Wonder Woman solo movie. It is still not known who he will be playing but I am glad to see him join the DCCU.

Comic News

It has been an awesome Monday morning so far because the magazine Empire features new images from the upcoming Suicide Squad movie that is set to release next year. Embedded image permalink

Jared Leto's Joker is gracing the front cover of the magazine and gives us a different look to the character. Most of the pictures feature Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Cara Delevingne's Enchantress and of course Jared Leto's Joker. There's also another photo of the entire squad together. Here are some of the photos:

Squad! These are just some of the photos that fans released online on Twitter so I'm hoping to see if more images will be released from the magazine but it was nice seeing these new photos to give us another look at what Suicide Squad will be like.

Also the first trailer for Marvel's Jessica Jones on Netflix has been released. To be honest, I was a bit hesitant about this series but after watching the trailer, I was hooked. I shouldn't have expected anything less from a Marvel Netflix show. Here's the trailer for those curious  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWHUjuJ8zxE

Another show, which will be premiering tonight on CBS, is Supergirl. Melissa Benoist will be playing as Kara Zor-El who also goes by Supergirl. She is cousins with Superman aka Clark Kent, who may be showing up on the show. I'm very excited for this show because it is the first time in about 30 years that we're getting a female superhero on TV. This show can definitely inspire many kids out there especially young girls. Great show for the family to watch.

Clean Room #1

October is known for being the month of horror. So the recent comic book released from Vertigo, which is a publisher that is part of DC comics, definitely suits this month's theme. Clean Room #1 is written by Gail Simone, drawn and colored by Jon Davis-Hunt and the cover art by Jenny Frison. Clean Room is said to explore revenge and religion so this is definitely not a comic you would want kids to read. I was hesitant about getting this issues because I'm not really a fan of things that have to do with horror but I was drawn to this book because my favorite comic book writer was writing it and the art in it was superb.

The story starts off with a family heading to church on a nice Sunday morning. It is set in a different country. In the next panel we see two guys who work for what seems like a water delivery company.
One of them asks the other if they're alright but the other guy just says, "I wish everyone would stay the fuck out of my business." You can tell right away that there is something odd about the annoyed guy. The two workers then get into their truck and the annoyed one, named Jonas, started to drive recklessly and hits the girl who's was with her family walking to church. After the girl is crushed by the two cars, Jonas backs up the truck and what happens next was something nobody expected. He proceed to hit the girl again with the truck. Bystanders who saw the whole thing hauled Jonas out of the car and started to him to a pulp.

The young girl who was hit miraculously woke up from the accident in her hospital room. Her parents are also in the room with her listening to the news about the accident, which I assume, happened earlier that day. The girl calls out to her mom and both her mother and father rush to her bedside. The girl asks for her father but he is right next to her. Both her parents tell her that he's right there.
With a scared look on her face, the girl says "Mama.."

The story is just getting started but this is where I'll end the blog for today since it is a newer book that was just released. I highly recommend getting this book. So much talent behind it which is one of the reason I just had to buy this issue. But here's some photos from the rest of the issue. The story moves on from the little girl, who will actually be one of the main characters in the book, to another main character whose story takes place years later after the little girls accident.

Animated DC Movies and Shows and Games

Most people aren't aware that DC is well known for their animated shows and movies. Marvel may have them beat in live action movies but they definitely can't compete with DC's animation. From animated shows like Batman: The Animated Series to Justice League and Young Justice and their animated movies like Wonder Women, Justice League: Doom but one of my all time favorites would have to be The Flashpoint Paradox.

I recommend this movie to so many people who want to get into comics or simply just want to watch a movie.
The movie shows a whole other universe where  Batman's parents aren't dead, Wonder Woman and Aquaman are at war with each other and Flash's mom is alive. This movie introduced the multiverse that DC has going on right now.

The multiverse has many different earth's and all of them have different versions of superheroes and villains. For example, in one of the Earth's, I think it was Earth 2, both Superman and Batman are kids while Wonder Woman is an adult.

The video game, Injustice: Gods Among Us also goes into the multiverse. In a different world, Superman loses his cool and kills the Joker. That's when Superman turns evil and many members of the Justice League join him. Batman, who was there when Superman killed the Joker, is against what Clark is trying to do, which is be the most powerful leader, and has a team of his own to take down Superman. I have not played the game but I have seen the video scenes of the game and it looks like a really good game to play on your free time. There's also comics that continue the story line from the game and adds a bit more detail to it.

Monday's are always a drag but with the new Star Wars trailer that will be airing tonight during Monday Night Football, today is bound to be a good Monday.

It is also a good day for comic related news.

First off, Rosario Dawson, plays as Claire Temple in Marvel's Daredevil, has been chosen to voice Batgirl aka Barbara Gordon in the upcoming Lego movie. Rosario has voiced DC characters before but it was interesting news to me because of her role as a Marvel character. Rosario is an amazing actress and I can't wait to see her voice one of my favorite characters.

Exciting news for fans of Hulk and Thor. Mark Ruffalo's Hulk is expected to be in Thor: Ragnarok. Thor and Hulk have clashed before in the comics so him starring in the new Thor movie will intriguing.

The popular Hack/Slash comic book series is being developed into a TV series. They hired Skip Woods to write the script and be executive producer along side Adrian Askarieh and Ray Ricord. If you are a fan of horror, then this series is for you.

During New York comic con, their was a display for Batman vs Superman on the show floor and it included Lex/OS, which is run by none other then Lex Luthor, Superman's nemesis. According to comicbook.com, they were offering wifi and charging stations to the fans who attended the con. Now they are asking fans to sign up for updates. I thought this was a very cool way of promoting the movie and getting fans excited about it.

Comic News

New York Comic Con just ended but didn't bring as much big news as I had expected. Still very exciting week for many of those who attended.
Taken from comicbookresources.com
Kodansha announced that they will be releasing an Attack on Titan anthology based on the popular Japanese anime and manga Shingeki No Kyojin or better known as Attack on Titan. The book will feature a ton of American comic creators such as Gail Simone, Scott Snyder, Babs Tarr, Cameron Stewart and many more. It will feature different short stories that the writers come up with. The book will be in full color and will be 250 pages long. I honestly jumped up and down when I heard this news. Attack on Titan is one of my favorite anime/manga so seeing that some of my favorite comic book writers teaming up to bring something different to the story. If you'd like to watch the anime, it is available on Crunchyroll and Funimation.

Other comic book news announced was that Marvel will be publishing a Captain Marvel young adult novel that will be created by Shannon Hale and Dean Hale. This will be a great way to get more girls into comics and welcome more readers. Also a great way to introduce this character to people before the movie gets released.

Marvel also released a teaser for the upcoming second season for Daredevil. The footage teases a lot of what will be coming in the second season of the show like Elektra and the Punisher.
The first season of the show did very well and it seems like this upcoming season will also be a good one. This show shows a bit of the darker side of Marvel. Here's the link to the teaser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y44m5739m-4

Mark Ruffalo in disguise
Jared Leto who will be playing the Joker in the upcoming DC movies and Mark Ruffalo who plays as Hulk in the Marvel movies were walking around New York comic con in disguise. Many con goers had no idea who was under the masks they wore as a disguise and even took pictures with some cosplayers. Many actors go to cons dressed up in costumes or masks to enjoy walking around the con floor without making a big scene.

New York Comic Con

Happy Friday! It's been an awesome start to the weekend thanks to New York Comic Con (NYCC). Just yesterday, on Thursday, NYCC opened their doors to fans and a bunch of awesome news was released already on the first day.
Marvel updated their movie slate and added 5 new movies to the slate. They also pushed some back from their release date like Captain Marvel.
Embedded image permalink

They added a Spider-Man which is not titled yet. It's going to be interesting how this movie will turn out because the past Spider-Man movies, Marvel had no control over the character but now that they have the rights to the character back, it will be interesting to see what they'll do with the character.
The other new movie is a sequel to Ant-Man. It is titled Ant-Man and The Wasp which is pretty exciting if you've seen the movie or know about the comics.
They also announced 3 untitled films that for the time being, are set to release in 2020 but as I said, they may change the date later on.

The costume designer for Batman v Superman talked about and released concept art for the costumes for Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman.
Embedded image permalink

We've seen a lot of photos with Batman and Superman's costumes but not much of Wonder Woman's costume. The concept art of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman looks absolutely stunning. I'll be looking forward to seeing this on the big screen.

Some other exciting DC movie news that was announced was that DC was going to go ahead and go through with Justice League Dark. This project was put on halt when Guillermo Del Toro, the one who made this project possible, left because of other projects he had. They plan to start production by next year with the help of producer Scott Rudin. Justice League Dark are basically the supernatural heroes. Excited can't even describe how I felt the first time they announced that this movie was going to be made. Then when it was announced that they halted it because Del Toro was going to leave, I was heartbroken. You can probably guess how I felt when they announced that it was back on.

Batgirl Annual #3 - Part 4

The last and final part of Batgirl Annual #3 includes characters from the Gotham Academy series.

It starts off with Batgirl trying to find a blueprint that Tina Nair (From the last part of Batgirl) stashed away at Gotham Academy. Babs is trying to find a head of a statue that contains the important blueprint, before Gladius finds it. She's trying to find the passage that goes under the library. Just as Babs was about to give up on finding the hidden passage, the shelf opens. Behind the passage way, Babs finds two girls, main characters in the Gotham Academy comics, who were mapping passageways and tunnels.
Olive on the right and Maps on the left
Maps asks Babs if they can help but Olive says they should leave. Babs takes up Maps offer.
The girls go on looking for chest that contains a head of a statue. Maps using here drawn out map leads them to where the chest is said to be and they then start looking for a hollow part of the wall. Olive finds it and grabs the chest out of it. The girls then proceed to open it and find the head of the statue in it. As Babs grabs it out, she can here something rattling inside.
Before they had the chance to break it open, something runs past them and steals the head. that person turned out to be Gladius. Gladius ran up a passage that leads to the rooftop and Babs and the girls go after her. Babs catches up to Gladius and face each other ready to fight. Gladius is then hit by what looks like a Batarang ( A weapon used by Batman and his sidekicks). It was Maps who threw it and says she got it from a kid named Damian ( Batman's son and current Boy Wonder).
Babs took a jab at the distracted Gladius and it lead to her letting go of the head that she stole from Babs. It broke from the impact and Olive and Maps go to pick up the thing that was inside of it. Babs ties up Gladius and heads towards the girls to check out what was inside. Inside the head of the statue was an old microfilm.
The girls head into the library to use a projector machine that can read what the microfilm contains but all that came up was a bunch of scribbles.
Babs takes out a USB and plugs it into the computer which helps reveal the blueprint.
As the girls are looking at the blueprint, which looks like it contains plans for a weapon, the film catches on fire.
Babs puts out the fire with anti-flame spray that she carries and tells the girls that the first rule of Superhero Club is to always be prepared. That then gives Maps an idea.
Then out of nowhere somebody appears and it turns out to be Mr. Scarlet, the librarian at the school. He tells them to go back to their room. Maps liked the idea of a Superhero Club so once she goes to her room, she starts planning out her costume.

Batgirl Annual #3 - Part 3

The next part of this story features the amazing Batwoman aka Kate Kane. I love seeing these to badass women team up together.

It starts off with Kate fighting a bunch of guys in a bar. She asks where Tina Nair is. Then Kate hears someone else's voice and turns back to notice that it's Babs.

In the next panel, we see them riding their motorcycles somewhere near a field. Babs is explaining to Kate what has happened so far up to the moment she saw Kate in the bar.  Both ladies are looking for Tina Nair who is a a retired military instructor and later on revealed to know Kate.

Once the ladies stop, they go through a field of what looks like tall grass when they see something horrific.

They see Tina in a big figure made out of grass which is on fire. Near the fire was Gladius, whom Batgirl is after this entire story.

While Kate helps Tina escape from the fiery grass she was trapped in, Babs fights Gladius. After Kate rescued Tina, she helped Babs take down Gladius.
After taking her down with the help of Kate, Babs ties up Gladius. Babs went back to ask Tina about the information that Gladius was after when Kate realizes that Gladius was gone. The last panel ends with Babs saying "I need to find tht blueprint before she does."

Batgirl Annual #3 - Part 2

The next part of this Batgirl issue features a character from the Catwoman comics.
As soon as you turn the page, you can see the different art style that is used in this part of the story. The story starts off with Babs chasing the woman with white hair that was in the last part of the story. As Babs is running, she sees a hand sticking out but was to late to react to it and ends up running into the arm which knocks Babs down to the ground. The arm belonged to none other than Spoiler aka Stephanie Brown who once wore the Batgirl mantle (Both were in Batgirl Future's End). Babs decides to pay her back by kicking Stephanie's legs out from under her.  After a bit of a scuffle, Babs tracking device on her glove (As seen in the panel above) starts to go off. Stephanie asks her what it is and Babs tells her and also asks if she would like to help her catch the lady she's looking for.
When they spot her, Stephanie goes down to capture the lady.

After she successfully captured her, Babs asks the lady a question and she goes off. Both Steph and Babs have a sort of bored look on their faces after the ladies speech.
Babs then heads off to chase other leads but before leaving, she give her tracking device that was attached to her glove to Steph, leaving her a big smile on her face.

It was nice seeing both of them together again even if it was for a short amount of time.
